Delighting in the little moments of the day tends to come easy for me these days, but the look up and pay attention is the hard part. Yes I concede that technology does make it harder to "look up and look around" both physically and with our mind and soul as well.
I started
this blog to "look up and look around" and pay attention to each of my todays.
It has been a head down, get it done last several days. Question I have been asking myself in the "in between moments" is how do I stay, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually attentive during those "head down get it done stretches of time". I don't know the answer I only know that I thrive better when I regularly take moments to stop and smell the flowers (and take pictures of them too).
This was yesterday's attempt to look up and look around
This morning my mind is filled with countdowns:
- 24 hours until I board a plane for AZ
- 11 months until I can hug my son again
- 4 weeks (4 Saturdays) until Pumpkin Day
- 14 weeks (14 Saturdays) until Christmas
- 5 weeks until Agilent Fiscal Year End
- ... and on and on ...
My mind has a tendency to turn a joyful anticipation into a dread filled deadline for a long list of tasks.
Many years ago I learned discipline of "counting your blessings"...
(I leap from this thought to many others, to re-reading my journal and praying and reading the scriptures) ...
Final Thought:
It took me a long time to develop the habit delighting in the little things (of fighting to find, to see, and to intentionally enjoy the goodness and beauty in everyday little moments).
It will take a while to develop the habit of "looking up and looking around" in the midst of the "rush, hurry, get it done, and get it done right".
Now I am off to pay attention in each task, and enjoy the process; yes to find, see, and intentionally delight in each task (even if it is mundane or in preparation).
TODAY is all we really have -
DON'T WASTE IT with your head down!!
