Shawn had planned a Shawn and Sam weekend (Fri-Sat) for Feb 24-25. What this means is he set aside the day for us to do something, hopefully outdoors. It is usually my job to do the actual "event planning".
After some inspiration from my son's girlfriend, we are planning on a 36 hr backpacking trip at Old Rag.
below are some of my notes as I start putting planning into full gear
PLANNING OUR OLD RAG HIKE
GET A BACKCOUNTY PERMIT (TWO WEEK TURN AROUND FOR MAILED IN APPLICATIONS oops!)http://www.nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/campbc_permit.htm
http://www.nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/upload/SHEN_Backcountry_Camping_All_Worksheets.pdf
http://www.nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/upload/SHEN_Backcountry_Camping_Permit_Application2.pdf
fill out the permit application, then call (540) 999-3500.
Provide your name, phone number, complete address, entry and exit dates of trip, number in party, description of vehicle (make, model, color and tag number), and trip itinerary, including where you will park and trail areas in which you will camp.
Look for Trail Guides: (I think we might already own these - LOOK FOR THEM)
